Charity energy: VAT and Climate Change Levy relief.

Energy broker support for charities: check you pay 5% VAT and no Climate Change Levy where your use qualifies, and claim back overcharges.

What charities may be entitled to

Fuel and power used by a charity for non-business purposes can qualify for the reduced 5% VAT rate (HMRC VAT Notice 701/19) and relief from the Climate Change Levy. A charity bill can still show 20% VAT and the levy when the supplier has not received the declaration.

FAQs

Does every charity pay 5% VAT on energy?

Not automatically. The reduced rate applies to energy used for qualifying non-business purposes, and the supplier needs a declaration. We help you check what qualifies.

Can overcharged VAT or levy be refunded?

Suppliers can often correct past bills once the right declaration is in place. How far back depends on the supplier and HMRC rules, so we check your bills before making any claim.

Does Dernetz guarantee a saving or recovery?

No. Dernetz can support procurement, validation, evidence gathering and supplier follow-through, but outcomes depend on supplier pricing, contract terms, consumption, market conditions and third-party decisions.
